Sunday’s Reflection:Finding your Interest and turning it into a Business

Updated: Apr 23, 2021

No need for me to remind you that we are in a pandemic and need more money! Just did anyway. Whether you are out of a job before or during this pandemic or you are still in a job but need another stream of income, this post is for you!
We all have our unique skill and interests. While we may have common interest in something we can do, each of us have different ways of doing it and that is what makes us stand out in a saturated market.
This post is for you to think about what your real interests are and how you can capitalise them.
Firstly, think about where you are now in your life. Write down all that is going on in your life and how you feel living the way you do. Are you comfortable just the way things are right now? Do you wish to better yourself even if you are successful at what you are currently doing? Do you see yourself doing more and wanting to earn more? Yes? Awesome you’re getting there!
Now that you have visualised your life to date and admit that you should be doing more, let’s enter the subconscious mind. What do you see yourself doing each moment you are locked in your subconscious mind. Often times when we want more out of ourselves and are uncomfortable in the current state we are in, our minds tend to wander where our hearts yearn to be. We dream with our eyes open. When this happens, you find your interest, passion, or purpose. However, you may be afraid to chase them and turn them into reality. Afraid to live them. Don’t be.
If each time you catch yourself smiling or feeling happy when you are day dreaming, you should stop dreaming it and start living it. You aren’t the only one who have brainstormed an idea that reflects your interest and suddenly fear takes it away from actually happening. You’re not a coward for being afraid to go for it. Like it or not, many of us aren’t risk takers. But, how will you know how it will turn out if you don’t give it a few tries? I would say it’s better to overcome your fears and go for it rather than watching someone else turn your dreams into reality. You would do it better, why? It’s your passion, your dream.
Now that all the thoughts are floating across your mind, to find your ideal interest:
Write down 5 things you find joy in doing
If you find yourself;
investing your time into something without noticing
always volunteering to do the same thing
whatever that is, add it to the list.
I am a pro’ procrastinator! Many of you can probably relate. I spent Easter Sunday procrastinating whether to put off the blog week that would start today, Easter Monday to the following Monday. I had all the excuses! It’s a holiday weekend, no one will read it on a holiday, no one will read it because my last blog site was 4 years ago. Ridiculous.
It takes discipline, focus and self encouragement to do anything that you desired to.
Now that you have your list of your top 5 interests. Let’s take each of the following steps to monetize them:
1. Imagine, then write how you would turn each of your listed interest into a business idea
I enjoy all things self care, from meditating, to religiously doing skin care routines, getting massages, giving suggestions, etc. That is one of my top 5 interests. I can monetize it by selling candles. How can you turn your interests into a business idea?
2. Place each interest with their business idea in order based on the estimated start up cost
You may not have all the capital to start a big project. We often times underestimate how much bigger we can turn our dreams. Sometimes they require a capital bigger than we can afford. So to avoid being overwhelmed by the startup costs. Arrange each item from smallest start up cost to largest start up cost.
3. Create a business plan for the top 3 interests
Not sure how to do a business plan? Here’s a free download with a business plan outlined I created for you:
Take your time step by step. You don’t have to fill all the points it it’s not necessary for your business idea.
Get planning!
Always remember to be patient in everything that you do. There’s room for everyone in all markets.
