Sunday’s Reflection: Managing Time & Resources

Updated: Jun 3, 2021
Hey 👋🏼
It’s a new week.... New week means rolling over last week’s incomplete tasks to complete this week, creating new tasks and using your resources to achieve your week’s goals.
I recently started blogging again after 4 years! I decided to blog 3 times per week... Who was I fooling? 🤷🏻♀️ Myself for sure!
I thought I had the time but I really don’t. I then said...“Ok Tajia, let’s just post on Mondays and Wednesdays” that was a failure too. The end result was me not blogging all of last week.
Already! I’m inconsistent 🤦🏻♀️
Nevertheless! This past weekend, I vowed to get my shit together and get things done. I thought it wasn’t necessary to jot on paper all that I needed to get done to keep my life from falling apart... News flash! That’s adulting, I’m an adult and so are you... It’s NECESSARY.
This week I challenge you to work on managing your time and resources to keep the dream alive and achieve all the small goals. Success happens in small increments put together to achieve the big dream.
Here’s how to start:
Start planning ahead... If you have a planner you are already on your way. Don’t worry if you don’t have a planner... we’re now in a digital age where if you can spend hours on social media, you can do anything on your smart phone. You should have a task or reminder app on your phone.. if not.. download a free app. I use Google Calendar it allows you to create tasks, reminders and schedules. First, use the notes app on your phone and make a list of all the tasks you need to complete.. off the bat.. it doesn’t have to be in order (you will put it in order in reminders/tasks). Next you put them in order when creating the task... in order... meaning... when they are due to be completed from highest to lowest priority. Here’s a tip: I grouped the lower priorities that can be completed sooner, together and do them first to get them out of the way (if possible).
Use realistic timelines! Don’t play yourself... if you work better in the mornings, day time or at night, schedule your tasks to your availability. It's always ok to reschedule when last-minute obligations appear during the week.
While planning, what are the things you will need to tackle each task? I am referring to resources. Resources can be physical items or phone apps. For example, you are operating an online store... you need a quality camera (phone or professional camera), an app to edit and design (i.e Photoshop, Canva). Use the resources you have and improvise, find free apps that can assist in making your presentation looking professional and if you can afford to, invest in anything that will make you and/or your business appealing to the viewers. (Tip: use as much available free trials)
Be consistent as much as you can. You grow when you are consistent.
I am not a morning person. I hate alarms 🙄,time frames and deadlines. I currently don’t have a set schedule because there are always last minute obligations.
Why am I giving you an advice if I'm not living by it? 🤭 Because we all experience that, the good side to it is that some of us manage well.
Can't relate 😐
To those who do have that experience and is being defeated.. I am happy to share with you how I learned to manage.. (this may or may not work for you)
I create my schedule on Sundays.. I will add and remove tasks as the days in the week go.. Yes I make deadlines, I set specific times to complete them...
What really works for me of late is whenever I find myself free for more than 15 minutes I look on a task that I am able to do with whatever resources I have available in that moment and spend all that time until I have something to do.
Always remember success happens when you complete a combination of small things. It’s always the small things that counts!
If you set a goal to read one book per week... you can achieve that goal if you read at least one hour each day. At the end of the week you succeeded at reading 1 book per week.
Everything you are doing to make you and whatever you’re doing work will be hard. That’s reality! However, always aim to work smarter and not harder.. make a hard life easy.. easier said than done.
Your challenge is to brush off the pity on yourself and start again. Anything is possible once you apply the effort. Read my previous blog on how to find your interest and make it put dollars in your account... start the moment you find out what works for you and use this week’s challenge to kick start May with a boom 💥
You can do this.. It’s possible!
Thanks for reading
Stay safe 🤍
