Self Care Wednesdays: Working at your own pace

Updated: Jun 3, 2021

Hi 🙋🏻♀️ I’m back!
I cannot believe it has been a whole month(+) since the last time I posted 😯
I missed it, I missed posting on Instagram @aijatselfcare.
Anyway, welcome to a new month, second half of the year and the end of another quarter (if you work with Q1-Q4).
I am a first time mother of a preemie. She’s now 5 months. She is the reason why I was MIA 🙃 and the inspiration behind today’s post.
My daughter spent 131 days since birth at the hospital and so I had 131 days of free time. I had time to recover from surgery, time to plan what I want to do in my spare time until I am back in the world of work and I had time to do the planning and launching ... blogging is one of them.
She came home in the first week of May and I now I have to be the parent and the doctor sometimes. I needed time to adjust and adapt to the new life.
Today, I want to tell you that you can achieve everything you set out to on your own time!
You probably already knew this!
If you had read my previous post about managing time and resources you would know that you don’t always achieve your goals at the exact time you set for it to happen.
But why? 🤨
Simple... things happen. Sometimes that’s all there is to it when you try to find what the real reason is and why now when I am closer and getting better.
And guess what? You have to accept it then work around it just so that you still achieve those goals and not give up on yourself even when you think it’s the best thing for you. Shit happens!
I started blogging, I enjoy anything that is related to Self Care. I thought, why not create a community where I could share it with others 🤷🏻♀️
Let me share with you my experience in accepting that I have to be patient with my journey and work at my own pace....
Blogging like YouTube requires you to create content. I also created an Instagram page for encouraging self care, I am not creative in designing anything so I started using Canva Pro (1 month free trial). It took me a few days to get a hang of it so that I could design my posts to my liking.
When the trial ended I could not use majority of the features that made the page presentable 🤦🏻♀️
And so with all the expenses that came with taking care of a baby. I had to sacrifice for a while as cheap as the monthly subscription may be. Hence, I couldn’t post, couldn’t create my blog covers, had no time to think of what to post. This is where I had to accept that I had to slow down and focus on building that bond with my baby being that I wasn’t able to while she was in the hospital. I had to accept that I will soon be able to adjust to my new routine and manage my time to balance all my responsibilities. But, I have to be patient and work at my own pace 😉
I eventually sacrificed time and money to plan a full month’s content and paid for the subscription and here I am working my way up to where I planned to be.
The moral of this is, don’t be discouraged when new responsibilities pop up that may cause you to rearrange your priorities and have you making sacrifices.
Step back if you have to. However, keep planning, adjust and adapt where you have to, don’t be complacent and don’t give up just because things are not on schedule. It is totally normal!
I would love to hear from you what you like about these blogs and what you would like to read more of.
Also, if you have experienced having to work at your own pace... feel free to share in the comments so that myself and others can be inspired. 😊
Thanks for reading 🤗
