Self Care Wednesdays: Staying Positive Against The Odds

Updated: Jun 3, 2021

Hey 👋🏼
Thanks for tuning in on this week’s Self Care Wednesdays. I look forward to self care on Wednesdays every week.. it’s my day to check my mental, physical and spiritual health. I use this day to check on how I am coping so far in the week.
Weekends are known for relaxation for most of us. I find myself trying to recover from a 5 day long period of keeping myself sane and in one piece on Saturdays and Sundays. I started to notice by the time I feel relaxed and ready to enjoy the weekend... it’s Monday 🙍🏻
To avoid that... On Wednesdays I use 3 hours of my day (it doesn’t matter what time of day) to do a full skin care routine, candle lit shower, meditate and listen to music or one of my favorite podcast shows. I also do some stretches, try to massage areas of my body I am able to reach and ensure I get 6-8 hours of sleep.
Once I do this, Thursdays and Fridays go by so easily it would almost feel as though I had a 4 day weekend!
I think you should give it a try. It doesn’t have to be a Wednesday. You chose your best day when you’re most available for yourself.
Since covid, I no longer watch the days.. sometimes I lose track of what day it is! Ever since, I would expect something bad to happen during the week. I could bet a dollar and win!
Negative events can happen suddenly and who needs more problems than not being able to live the open life you‘re used to before now?
And the thing with this is, it throws us off our schedules for as long as we allow it to. Don’t let it control how you move forward.... instead, you take control on how it will affect your way forward! Does that make sense?
Last Sunday’s Reflection blog on managing time and resources, I spoke about making use of every free time you have to achieve your big goals little by little.
Imagine making your plan for this week and today out of no where something came in the way that would completely affect your plans for the rest of the week... what could be worse? Let me tell you! Your tasks aren’t being completed within the time frame each day that you scheduled.
So now imagine having a backlog of tasks, a sudden hindrance and the week is already half way finished 🤯
You didn’t want to bring these tasks into next week. You’re trying hard to commit to being a boss in managing your time. How will you stay positive and optimistic despite the odds?
Self Care on a Wednesday that’s the answer for me.
Here’s what I would do:
👉🏻 Make more time available to complete my tasks. How? Sacrifice a few hours (not the entire day or more than 3 hours) just for me to keep my sanity.
👉🏻 Improvise on how to demolish the hindrance from affecting the rest of the week to achieve my goals.
👉🏻 Saying “NO” to the things that are not necessary and does not add any value to what I have been doing since the beginning of the week that I need to achieve.
👉🏻 Go back to all I subscribed to for the week and sacrifice something to gain extra time to complete what is a major priority.
👉🏻 Refresh my to do list and calendar to see what is the new moving forward for the rest of the week.
You should by then be at one as if nothing happened.
Don’t throw everything into next week, you’ll feel incompetent. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Neither was the world 🤷🏻♀️
Claim your 7 days! It’s yours!
Stay sane, sanitized and safe 🤪
